Our journey through time begins.
We are in the Swabian Jura, 35,000 years before present. The blossoms of wormwood and mugwort exude an intense scent. A group of hunters has gathered on a hill, where tall grass hides them. From their position they have a good view of the glacial steppe landscape, where there are few trees. They wait patiently for their prey, but they are not alone. Not far away, a pride of lions lurks, almost a little too close. From here, the group can observe the lions closely, even down to the finer details of their faces.
In the evening, everyone gathers at the cave entrance, where they will also spend the night. They sit around a campfire and review the day. One of them takes a piece of mammoth tusk and begins to carve a lion’s head in elaborate detail, even though it will take a few days, the thrill of the afternoon encounter was worthwhile – the fine details on the lion’s face will turn out even better this time!
